Deep Fishing Upgrade Tier List

Every Deep Fishing session asks the same shop question: Strength, luck, Fish Magnet, or Auto Sell. This page ranks those four jobs for the incremental loop that shipped on 18 July 2026. Strength is a coin upgrade. Luck, Fish Magnet, and Auto Sell are gamepasses. They still compete for your attention, your Robux budget, and your next click, so they belong on one list. We do not invent extra upgrades, species, or prices.

The correct answer is almost always Strength until the bait reaches water that can actually spawn Legendary, Mythical, and Secret fish. Luck does not add meters. Fish Magnet does not add meters. Auto Sell does not add meters. Farther water is the rarity gate, and Strength is the upgrade that buys that gate. Read how to cast farther for the hold-release motion, then come back here when the shop is open. The cast planner turns this ranking into a session order.

S tier: Strength

Strength is the only upgrade that changes where the bait lands. Hold-and-release still matters — a tap into the near foam wastes a strong rod — but no amount of timing puts a weak rod into the deep rings. Spend coins here first. Spend the next coins here too. Keep spending here after you buy a pass.

Free-to-play players can treat Strength as the entire shop for the first few hours. Sell Commons, keep the first Legendary / Mythical / Secret / Mutation for badges, dump the rest into Strength. Catch-count badges (50 through 500K) will happen as a side effect of that loop. You do not need a magnet to start, and you do not need Auto Sell until the inventory is annoying.

Spenders make the same Strength buys with coins. A luck pass on a short rod is a more expensive Common farm. Double Coins, ranked on the gamepass list, exists to feed this Strength bar faster. It is not a replacement for the bar.

If a cast still dies at your feet, the problem is Strength or release timing, not a missing Secret species name. Practice on the controls guide. Then buy Strength again.

A tier: Luck (only in water you can reach)

Luck is the trio Lucky, Super Lucky, and Ultra Lucky. They stack as a ladder: Lucky is the entry, Super Lucky is the middle, Ultra Lucky is the top. They belong in A tier once Strength has already opened rarer water. They belong in C tier on a new account.

Luck changes the odds inside a ring. It does not move the ring. If you are hunting First Mythical or First Secret, raise Strength, then consider luck, then keep selling Commons so the Strength bar does not stall. Pair this with the rarity list so you know which label is worth pausing Auto Sell for.

Do not buy all three luck passes out of anxiety. Pick the highest tier you actually intend to use. Free-to-play players can skip the whole ladder and still finish the game; the ocean does not turn off because the shop is closed.

B tier: Fish Magnet

Fish Magnet is a volume upgrade. Deep Fishing already returns multiple fish per cast. The magnet helps more of that haul actually reach you, which matters when a 12-player server is noisy or when you are losing pickups at the edge of a long throw. It does not create Secret water. It does not replace a clean hold-release.

Buy Fish Magnet after Strength is comfortable and after you have felt the pickup problem. If every fish already lands in your inventory, the magnet is a luxury. If you are dropping hauls while you fight the camera, it is a real B-tier purchase. It pairs with long sessions and with the later catch badges (10K, 50K, 100K, 250K, 500K) where volume is the point.

C tier: Auto Sell (until volume hurts)

Auto Sell is last on the upgrade ranking because it is a time saver, not a power spike. It becomes A-tier behavior in a long Common grind and C-tier behavior during a badge hunt. The pass does not know you still need First Legendary. You have to know that.

Turn Auto Sell off when:

  • You have not unlocked First Legendary, First Mythical, First Secret, or First Mutation.
  • You are checking labels after a far cast.
  • You are collecting mutations on purpose.

Turn Auto Sell on when:

  • The inventory is mostly Commons you already planned to vendor.
  • Multi-fish casts are faster than your sell clicks.
  • You are pushing catch-count badges and coin-funded Strength at the same time.

That switch is the whole skill. The coin guide covers what to vendor; this page covers when to automate it.

Spend order you can follow without a widget

  1. Learn the hold-release on getting started and controls.
  2. Sell Commons. Buy Strength. Repeat until farther water is obvious.
  3. Keep the first of each headline rank and the first mutation for badges.
  4. If you spend Robux at all, Double Coins or a single luck tier after distance is real — see gamepasses.
  5. Add Fish Magnet when pickups fail on long casts.
  6. Add Auto Sell when selling is the bottleneck and badge hunts are done.
  7. Recheck the cast planner whenever you feel the shop pulling you toward luck too early.

More Mutations and Double XP are gamepasses with their own jobs (variants and XP). They are not Strength. They do not belong in the early coin dump. VIP is a bundle with unpublished extras on this wiki, so it is never the first upgrade.

How this list fights bad sessions

A bad session in Deep Fishing is usually one of three mistakes. You tapped instead of holding, so the bait never left the pier — that is a controls problem. You bought luck before Strength, so you rolled Commons in near water — that is this list. You left Auto Sell on during a Secret hunt — that is a badge problem. None of those mistakes require a new species name. They require the next Strength buy, a cleaner release, and a sell button you still control.

Free-to-play players should print this order in their head: Strength, Strength, Strength, then maybe Auto Sell. Spenders should print: Strength with coins, Double Coins if they want speed, luck in far water, magnet, Auto Sell. Both groups should open the tier list hub when they forget which page ranks fish versus which page ranks the shop.

When LazyGames ships a new upgrade that is not in this four-way split, we will add it. Until then, do not invent a hidden rod stat. The live shop is the shop. Strength is still first, and farther water is still where the rare fish route actually starts.

FAQ

Frequently Asked Questions

Quick answers to the most common Deep Fishing questions.

What should I upgrade first in Deep Fishing?

Strength. It is the distance upgrade and it unlocks the water where Legendary, Mythical, and Secret fish live. Luck, Fish Magnet, and Auto Sell wait until that water is real.

Is luck a better upgrade than Strength?

No. Luck changes odds inside a ring. Strength moves which ring you can reach. Buy luck only after far casts are consistent, as ranked on the gamepass list.

When is Fish Magnet worth buying?

After Strength is comfortable and you are losing pickups on long casts or busy 12-player servers. It is a volume tool, not a rarity tool.

When does Auto Sell pay off?

When multi-fish casts make selling the bottleneck and you are no longer protecting first-catch badges. The cast planner marks that switch.

Where do I practice the cast that makes Strength matter?

Use the cast farther guide and the controls page. A short tap wastes a strong rod.
