Deep Fishing Fish Rarity Rankings
Common through Secret, with mutations as a modifier — no invented species names.
Deep Fishing does not publish a combat roster. It publishes a rarity ladder that decides how excited you should be when the haul comes in, which badges you are close to, and whether the next sell button is a mistake. This page ranks that ladder and only that ladder. We do not invent species names, pond labels, or drop tables. If a fish is not named in the live game, it is not named here.
The order is simple and it is the one the badges already hint at: Common (everything below the headline ranks) sits at the bottom, then Legendary, then Mythical, then Secret. Mutations are a modifier on whatever rank you already caught. A mutation does not promote a Common into a Secret. It makes the same rank more interesting, more collectible, and often more valuable when you sell — which is why the First Mutation badge is a separate trophy from First Legendary.
Farther water is still the real gate. Strength, not a luck pass, is what puts bait into the rings where Legendary, Mythical, and Secret actually live. If your casts still die in the near water, rarity rankings are a wishlist. Read how to cast farther and the upgrade tier list before you treat this page as a farm route. The rare fish guide covers the session habits; this page covers what the haul is worth once it is in the inventory.
S tier: Secret
Secret is the top of the published rarity names. It has its own first-catch badge, and that badge is marked as rare for a reason. Treat a Secret like a session event, not like another Common you dump into Auto Sell. If you are running Auto Sell, pause it when the silhouette or the label looks wrong in a good way. Confirm the rank before the inventory clears.
You will not reliably farm Secret fish by standing in the starter ring and buying a luck pass. Distance first, luck second. Ultra Lucky, Super Lucky, and Lucky (in that order of spend if you are buying luck at all) only help in water your Strength already reaches. See the gamepass tier list for how those passes sit against Double Coins and More Mutations. Secret hunting is a late-loop activity, not a first-hour activity.
A tier: Mythical
Mythical sits under Secret and above Legendary. First Mythical is a real badge, which means the game treats the first one as a milestone, not as vendor trash. Keep the first one if you still need the badge. After that, Mythical fish are the main reason to keep pushing Strength instead of parking in a comfortable mid ring.
A Mythical with a mutation is a collector piece. A Mythical without a mutation is still a high sell. Do not let Auto Sell or a sloppy inventory dump mix a Mythical into a pile of Commons. If Fish Magnet is pulling extra pickups during a busy 12-player server, slow down for a second and read the labels. Volume is good. Blind volume is how headline fish disappear.
B tier: Legendary
Legendary is the first named rank most players will actually see. First Legendary is the badge that tells you the rod has left the purely Common economy. It is not the end of the list. It is proof that farther water works.
After the badge, Legendary fish are your mid-game coin engine. They sell better than Commons, they show up more often than Mythical or Secret, and they fund the next Strength buys. That is the job. Do not freeze a full inventory of Legendary fish because they look important. Sell the extras, keep pushing distance, and save the panic for Secret and for mutations you still have not logged.
If you are stuck on First Legendary, the problem is almost always distance or cast timing, not a missing species name. Hold-and-release until the bait travels. The controls guide and the getting started walkthrough cover the motion; this list only tells you why that first Legendary matters.
C tier: Common (implied)
Common is the unnamed bulk of the ocean. Anything that is not Legendary, Mythical, or Secret is here. Commons pay for Strength. They fill the 50 / 250 / 1,000 catch badges. They are not a failure state. They are the economy.
Sell Commons unless a mutation is sitting on them and you still need First Mutation or a variant you care about. Do not build a museum of Commons while your Strength bar is empty. The coin guide exists because the incremental loop only moves if the bulk fish turn into distance.
Mutation modifier (not a separate rank)
Mutations are listed last on purpose. They are not a fourth named rarity above Secret and they are not a replacement for Legendary. They modify a catch you already have. More Mutations is the gamepass that leans into this modifier; luck passes may help you see rarer base ranks, but they are not the same purchase as More Mutations. Rank that pass on the gamepass list, and hunt the method on how to get mutations.
A mutated Common can be worth holding for the First Mutation badge. A mutated Legendary is a coin spike. A mutated Mythical or Secret is the kind of inventory you screenshot before you sell. Never assume Auto Sell knows your badge goals. Turn it off when you are hunting First Mutation, then turn it back on when the badge is done and you are back to volume.
How rarity ties to badges and spend
The first-catch badges map onto this list one for one: First Legendary, First Mythical, First Secret, First Mutation. Catch-count badges (50 through 500K) do not care which rank filled the counter. That split is the whole mid-game plan. Push Strength so the named ranks can appear. Keep selling Commons so the catch counter and the coin stack both move. Use luck only after the water is right.
If you are a spender, do not buy Ultra Lucky to skip the Common layer. Commons still exist in far water, and you still need them for coins and for the huge catch badges. If you are free-to-play, this list is a patience chart: Common economy, Legendary proof, Mythical hunt, Secret event, mutations as spice.
When two fish of the same named rank land in one multi-fish cast, sell the extras unless you are collecting mutations. The hold-release kit can return several fish at once; rarity does not pause because the inventory is full. Clear space, keep casting into the farthest water you can honestly reach, and check this list whenever a label looks new.
The tier list hub is the parent page. Cross-check upgrades and passes before you change the shop. Cross-check launch notes if you are returning after a break. Rarity did not change because a new screenshot looked scarier. Secret is still the top named rank, and Strength is still the way you get there.
Frequently Asked Questions
Quick answers to the most common Deep Fishing questions.
What is the Deep Fishing rarity order?
Common (implied bulk fish) sits below Legendary, then Mythical, then Secret. Mutations modify a catch; they are not a fifth named rank.
Should I sell Legendary fish?
Keep the first one until First Legendary unlocks, then sell extras to fund Strength. Save the panic for Secret fish and for mutations you still need.
Does a mutation make a Common into a Secret?
No. A mutation is a modifier on the rank you already caught. Hunt the method on how to get mutations.
Why am I not seeing Mythical or Secret fish?
Your casts probably are not reaching far enough water. Raise Strength using the upgrade list and the cast farther guide before buying luck.
Is Auto Sell safe while hunting Secret fish?
Turn Auto Sell off when you are hunting First Secret, First Mutation, or any haul you have not identified. Volume tools are for Commons, not for headline ranks.
